How to compress images

  1. Choose one or more images.
  2. Pick a format and either a quality level or a target file size.
  3. Optionally set a maximum width to make big photos smaller still.
  4. Click Compress images. Several images download together as a ZIP.

Tips for smaller images

  • Resize first: a 4000-pixel photo is far bigger than any website needs. 1200–2000 px wide is plenty for most blogs.
  • Use WebP for websites – it’s usually much smaller than JPG at the same quality.
  • Quality 70–80% is the sweet spot for photos: much smaller files with no visible difference.
  • Keep your originals in case you need full quality later.

Frequently asked questions

Will my images lose quality?

JPG and WebP compression removes detail you’re unlikely to notice. You can raise the quality setting if you see any difference. PNG stays lossless.

What if my image is already small?

If the compressed version isn’t smaller, the tool keeps your original and tells you.

How does the target size work?

The tool tries different quality levels to get as close as possible to your target. If that isn’t enough, it reduces the image size slightly.
