How to resize an image for social media

  1. Choose your image (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP).
  2. Pick a size, such as Instagram portrait post or YouTube thumbnail.
  3. Choose Crop to fill and use the sliders to keep the important part, or choose a fit option to keep the whole image.
  4. Download the image, or open Download several sizes at once to get a ZIP.

Tips for sharp social images

  • Start big: use an original that is at least as large as the size you need. The tool warns you if an image will be enlarged.
  • Keep text central: platforms crop previews differently, so keep logos and words away from the edges.
  • Blurred background is a tidy way to fit a landscape photo into a tall Story without black bars.
  • JPG is best for photos; PNG for graphics with text or transparency.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the official sizes?

They are the commonly recommended upload sizes each platform used when we last checked in October 2026. Platforms change their layouts from time to time, so check their help pages for anything critical.

Will my image lose quality?

Resizing down keeps images sharp. Enlarging a small image can make it look soft, which is why the tool warns you.

Can I make a custom size?

Yes. Choose Custom size at the bottom of the list and enter any width and height.
