How to create an invoice
- Add your business details and, if you like, your logo.
- Enter your client’s details, the invoice number, date and payment terms.
- Add each item with a quantity and price. Tick I’m VAT registered to add VAT.
- Click Download PDF invoice. The next invoice number is filled in for you.
What a UK invoice must include
- A unique invoice number, your business name and address, and your client’s name and address.
- The invoice date, a clear description of what you’re charging for, and the amount due.
- If you’re a limited company, your full registered company name.
- If you’re VAT registered: your VAT number, the VAT rate and amount for each item, and the total excluding VAT. Check HMRC’s guidance for the full rules.
