- No sign-up needed
- Works on phone and desktop
“Preview” is roughly how much shows before a “more” or “see more” link. Platforms change limits from time to time.
How to use the character counter
- Type or paste your post.
- Check the bar for each platform. Red means you’re over the limit.
- Look for the “cut off” note. Put your hook before that point.
- Copy your post into each platform.
Writing tips for each platform
- Front-load the hook: on Instagram and LinkedIn only the first line or two shows before “more”.
- Keep X posts tight: 280 characters, and links use some of that space.
- Use a few relevant hashtags rather than a long list.
- Emojis count as characters, and some count as two on certain platforms.
Frequently asked questions
Are these limits up to date?
They reflect common limits at the time of writing. Platforms change them occasionally, so check if something looks off.
Why does my count differ from the app?
Some platforms count links, emojis or line breaks differently. Treat this as a close guide.
Is my text stored?
No. Everything is counted in your browser.
