- Check what was found – any GPS location is highlighted in red.
- Click Remove hidden data and download the clean copies.
Why it matters
- Selling online: photos of items at home can reveal your address on marketplaces.
- Children and family: remove locations before sharing photos publicly.
- Work and dating: keep where you live and work private.
- Note: many social networks remove location data when you upload, but email, messaging apps and websites often don’t.
Frequently asked questions
Does removing EXIF data reduce quality?
No. For most JPGs the hidden data is removed without touching the image itself. Photos with a rotation setting are re-saved at high quality so they stay the right way up.
What data is removed?
GPS location, camera make and model, date taken, software and editing data (XMP). Colour profiles are kept so colours look the same.
Can I check iPhone HEIC photos?
Convert them with our HEIC to JPG tool first, then remove the data from the JPGs.
