For affiliate commission, set the margin to 100% and enter your commission as revenue.
ROAS vs break-even ROAS
ROAS is revenue ÷ ad spend. A ROAS of 3x means £3 of sales for every £1 spent. But sales aren’t profit. Your break-even ROAS is 1 ÷ your profit margin. With a 40% margin you need a ROAS of 2.5x just to cover the ads. Anything above that is profit.
Using it for affiliate campaigns
If you run ads to affiliate offers, enter your commission as revenue and set the margin to 100%, since the commission is already your profit. Your break-even ROAS is then 1x.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good ROAS?
Any ROAS above your break-even figure is profitable. The higher your margin, the lower the ROAS you need.
What is the difference between ROAS and ROI?
ROAS compares revenue with ad spend. ROI here compares profit (after product costs and ads) with ad spend, so it shows what you actually keep.
What should I include in profit margin?
Include the cost of goods, delivery, payment fees and any other cost per sale, but not the ad spend itself, because the calculator subtracts that separately.
